Rimsky-Korsakov 18441908
The sudden death at the age of sixty-four of NICHOLAS
ANDREIEVITCH RIMSKY-KORSAKOV is recorded with regret. We have only
just been able, through the enquiries of Mrs. Newmarch, to discover
the exact place and date of the sad event, which took place on June
8, at St. Petersburg. An excellent biography, from the pen of Mrs.
Newmarch, of the distinguished Russian composer is given in the
new edition of Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians
(vol. iv p. 102), and an interesting appreciation of his art-work
is contained in César Cuis La Musique en Russie
(Paris, 1880).
